Issues with pregnancy and why queasiness is common

Pregnancy is the most wonderful time period in a women’s life but for a few of them, it comes with some in digestive bumps. Although there is no magic pill, there are magic precautions one can take during these 9 months.

Morning sickness

You’ve surely heard of it: the morning sickness. The most faced symptom of pregnancy. It is the most complained sickness a woman goes through. It happens due to pregnancy hormones kick into the overdrive speed. Morning sickness refers to the infamous duo ‘nausea and vomiting’ which affects about 50 – 75 % of the pregnant ladies at any time of the day; be it morning or night, it comes suddenly and anytime. It usually occurs in the 1st trimester and may continue for a while in the 2nd trimester, although it may occur to some pregnant ladies during their entire journey. Here are a few tips to ease the quease:

  • Due to a high sense of taste and digestion medicine during pregnancy, strong flavors and odors may make you feel sick.
  • Consuming food at room – temperature is ideal since it would not have a very strong smell and would not make you sick.
  • Large meals might burden your stomach with a lot, never miss your 3 main meals of a day. Have 2-3 light snacks daily which will help keep your glucose level constant.
  • An empty stomach may cause nausea. Have lightweight food before getting out of bed in the morning and avoid jerky moments.
  • Fatty foods take a longer time to digest and spicy food will itch your inner lining of the stomach. Avoid silly and greasy food.
  • Drink liquids between meals, instead of having water during the meals. This will lessen the chances of nausea or morning sickness as we call it.

Constipation

Constipation is another complained sickness during pregnancy. Around 40 % of women around the world suffer from constipation at the time of pregnancy. While carrying a baby, a woman’s body produces more progesterone. There are certain things that will help you ease it out:

  • Do walk or yoga daily, which will ease your bowel movement.
  • Keeping yourself hydrated is the most important thing as water can help you keep your stool soft. You can opt for warm water, which works wonders.
  • Include Vitamin C supplements in your diet which will cure your constipation problem.

Bloating

Sometimes one might even feel like a hot air balloon and it can be blamed on the elevated progesterone levels! These hormones relax the smooth muscle tissue which slows down the digestion process in your body and triggers bloating and gas. Here are some tips that can help you out:

  • Sip small amounts of water at regular intervals.
  • Do not overeat.
  • Salty foods may enhance water accumulation.
  • Chew properly to give digestion a head start.
  • Say NO to artificial sweeteners, these may cause harm to your baby and cause gas.
  • Go for a walk after your meals.

If your symptoms continue for too long or are unbearable, please consult your doctor. A physician might be able to help you in a better way possible.
